Water/Wastewater treatment methods utilize glass fiber filters in significant volumes for these test methods:

Determination of Volatile Suspended Solids (Standard Method 2540 E. Fixed & Volatile Solids)

"The residue of TSS, TDS after heating to dryness for a defined amount of time and at a defined temperature is defined as Fixed solids.  Volatile solids are those solids lost on ignition (heating to 550º C.)  They are useful to the treatment plant operator because they give a rough approximation of the amount of organic matter present in the solid fraction of wastewater, activated sludge and industrial wastes".

Recommended Products:

  • 934-AH® - industry standard for suspended solids content and related measurements
  • Grade VSS® - interchangeably equivalent to 934-AH® and ideal for high heat applications    

Determination of Total Suspended Solids (Standard Method 2540 D. and EPA Method 160.2)

"Suspended solids are those that can be retained on a water filter and are capable of settling out of the water column onto the stream bottom when stream velocities are low. They include silt, clay, plankton, organic wastes, and inorganic precipitates such as those from acid mine drainage."

Recommended Products:

  • Grade TSS – widely used for testing dissolved and suspended solids in water and wastewater
  • Grade E-economical media for suspended particle analysis in water, up to 500°

EPA Standard Method 1311 Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure Method Scope

"The TCLP is designed to determine the mobility of both organic and inorganic analytes present in liquid, solid, and multiphasic wastes."

Recommended Products:

  • Glass Microfiber Grade TCLP – binderless glass microfiber filter media with a particle retention of 0.7µm.  Acid treated and multi-stage deionized water rinsed to conform to EPA Method 1311.  Saves time and waste disposal expense in the lab by eliminating technician acid treating and rinsing procedure.
