New Advanced Materials Development Lab

I.W. Tremont has initiated renovation of a new space within the existing Hawthorne New Jersey facility for an Advanced Materials Development Lab. This new lab will be outfitted with wet-laid capabilities for rapid development of advanced porous materials complimenting Tremont's existing analytical and diagnostics product lines. When complete the facility will accelerate the development to commercialization process and allow in-house R&D of material structure and chemistry. Some of the latest material testing instruments will be present in the lab along with traditional papermaking wet-lab apparatus.

The new development lab will have materials capabilities in cellulose, synthetic and glass microfiber. Via this new expanded capability along with pilot and production scale paper making partnerships Tremont's ability to fully serve the analytical and diagnostics markets is strengthened.

One of the greatest strengths of this new lab may not be the standalone capabilities it presents, but rather the very unique pairing with our new (2017) structured device development facility. By combining capabilities we will offer the unique advantage of development of a porous material with ability to immediately insert it in a structured device such as syringe filter, inline filter and capsule. This novel approach to rapid R&D significantly reduces the lead times and lowers most of the traditional barrier to entry experienced in NRE projects. It also allows a new material to be concurrently developed along with a structured device to be tested in its intended form factor under real world conditions.
